Letter from Harav HaTzaddik Rabbi Moshe Kliers, Av Beis Din of Tiberias, to Rabbi Yisrael Abba Citron, Av Beis Din of Petach Tikvah. Tiberias. Letter of recommendation for: “A poor man who labors hard to find bread for his household. He has a dispute with... from Petach Tikvah, having suffered a substantial loss according to his claim. Therefore, I request that you assist him as much as possible.” Written in the handwriting, signature, and stamp of the Av Beis Din of Tiberias, HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Kliers. HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Moshe Kliers  (1874–1934) — an outstanding Gaon in all areas of Torah, among the prominent Chassidim of Slonim, and one of the foremost disciples of the Admor, author of Divrei Shmuel of Slonim. He received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Chaim of Brisk and the Aderes. Following the advice of his Rebbe, he attached himself to the leading Admorim of the generation. In 1909, he was chosen to serve as Rav of the Ashkenazic community of Tiberias. In 1910, the Divrei Shmuel established Yeshivas Or Torah in Tiberias, near the resting place of Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes, and appointed Rabbi Moshe Kliers as its head. He would remain at the Yeshivah throughout the week and deliver his comprehensive lectures in profound analysis. Throughout his life, he accepted no salary for his rabbinic position or for heading the Yeshivah. His scrupulous honesty in financial matters was renowned (and was even inscribed on his tombstone:  ”נקי כפיים ובר לבב” ). He lived in extreme poverty throughout his life, despite being one of the foremost rabbis in Eretz Yisrael and among the leaders of the Charedi community during the 1920s and 1930s. Beyond his greatness in both the revealed and hidden dimensions of Torah, he was an exalted Tzaddik who served Hashem in holiness and purity, in complete separation from worldly pleasures, exceptionally humble and lowly in spirit, and wholly devoted to the Tzaddikim of the House of Slonim. Among his works are the renowned Toras HaAretz , in two volumes, one of the foundational works on the agricultural Mitzvos of Eretz Yisrael; Tabur HaAretz, a comprehensive work on the history of Tiberias and its sages based on Chazal and early sources; and the responsa volume Moreshes Moshe, published after his passing.
