Three letters in His Holy Handwriting and signature of Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Yitzchak Yechiel Paneth of Deyzh, to the banker and public activist Mr. Eliyahu Klinger of the holy city of Safed, regarding the transfer of funds and assistance to a widow and an orphaned bride. Deyzh, 1922. “And it shall be considered a great Mitzvah, for she is an orphan, Heaven forbid.” [3] letters from Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Yitzchak Yechiel Paneth, regarding financial matters. Deyzh, 1922. 1.  “And here it will be possible to find a G-d-fearing Bachur and merchant if she will have the above-mentioned sum. Therefore, Your Honor should see to speak with him regarding this matter, and forgive me for asking him to apply his wisdom so that the matter may come to compromise between the sum of fifty, which Rabbi Shmuel wishes to give, and the sum which Rabbi Moshe requests… for the needs of dowry and clothing… and the needs of the marriage.” [1] leaf, 28 cm, official stationery of Rabbi Yitzchak Yechiel Paneth of Deyzh, written on both sides of the leaf, in his handwriting and signature. Deyzh, Tuesday of Parashas Va’eschanan [7 Av], 1922. Content of the letter: request to assist in arranging the financial matters necessary in order to marry off an orphan. 2. “ And I know that Your Honor certainly will not do anything contrary to the letter of the law, therefore he will surely fulfill her request and send her money.” [1] leaf, 22 cm, in his handwriting, signature, and stamp. Deyzh, Thursday of Parashas Ki Seitzei [7 Elul], 1922. Content of the letter: request to allow a widow to withdraw her money from the bank for the marriage of her daughter, and not to withhold her money because of a loan owed to the bank by her daughter-in-law. 3. “And I request that he reply to me immediately on the very day he receives the check, confirming its receipt, for the bank has caused me great fears regarding responsibility on the road.” [1] leaf, 27 cm, official stationery of “Presidency of the Kollelim of Siebenbürgen and Silady in the Four Holy Lands.” In his handwriting and signature. Deyzh, 17 Av 1922. Content of the letter: coordination of the transfer of funds and arrangements for their distribution. Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Yitzchak Yechiel Paneth of Deyzh, “Rabbi Yechiel Michel’e” (1863–1940) — eldest son of Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Moshe of Deyzh (son of the “Mareh Yechezkel”). After the passing of his father in 1903, his sons succeeded him: Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Yitzchak Michel’e also served as Admor, though the primary focus of his realm was the “Kupas Eretz Yisrael” and his work as president of Kollel “Ahavas Tzion” of Siebenbürgen, while his brother Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Yechezkel, author of the Sefer “Knesses Yechezkel, ” was chosen as Rav of the city and served there as Admor. Rabbi Yitzchak Yechiel was revered and beloved by the people of his city and by the Tzaddikim of his generation, and for many years accomplished great and wondrous things for the benefit of the members of the Kollel in Eretz Yisrael. Mr. Eliyahu Klinger (1877–1973) — son of Rabbi Chaim Shimshon Zeida, secretary of the Vizhnitz Kollel in Safed. “A living man and man of many deeds, faithfully occupied with communal needs, ” manager of “Klinger Bank Ltd.” in Safed, among the leaders of the Jewish community and of Agudas Yisrael in the city of Safed. Mr. Klinger assisted private individuals and institutions of the Old Yishuv in the city, and contributed through economic and public initiatives to the development of the city of Safed and its surroundings. His son, Yaakov Menachem HY”D, was murdered in a shooting attack during the disturbances of 1938 while traveling by bus on the Safed–Rosh Pinna road. During the riots of 1929, Mr. Klinger’s home and fuel warehouse were burned. Fold marks, slight light stains. Good condition.
