Manuscript. Commentary “Shir Chadash” on Perek Shirah, by HaGaon Rabbi Mordechai Hennah of Hamburg. 18th century. Explanations on Perek Shirah and on Midrash Yelamdenu, in His Holy Handwriting of HaRav HaGaon Rabbi Mordechai Hennah of Hamburg, author of “Aggadas Mordechai.” 18th century. [10] pages, on a single leaf and two pairs of leaves on folded sheets. Contents of the manuscript include:3 * [6] pages, with the title “Shir Chadash” on Perek Shirah. It is possible that he later changed the title of this commentary, since his tombstone states that the Rav authored “Shiras Mordechai on Aggadeta D'Shirasa.” * [4] pages, with the title “Peirush Yelamdenu, ” containing commentary on Midrash Tanchuma. Rabbi Mordechai ben Yosef Yuzpa Hennah (1700–1767) — Gaon and Tzaddik, Rosh Yeshiva, Dayan, and Darshan in the Hamburg community for more than forty years. From the family of the author of the responsa “Chavos Yair” and the Maharal of Prague, and descendant of Rabbi Itzik Brilin, Av Beis Din of Mannheim. In his first marriage he was the son-in-law of the author of “Tosefos Rishonim, ” and he was the Mechutan of Rabbi Yaakov Emden. He authored responsa in Halachah, taught students in his Beis Midrash, and composed twelve Sefarim, including the responsa “Divrei Mordechai, ” the Sefer “Baruch Mordechai” for sharpening students and resolving the words of the Rambam, the Drush Sefarim “Megillas Mordechai” and “Shiras Mordechai, ” “Shoshanas HaMelech” and “Baruch Mordechai” on the Rambam, and others. Among the works published from his writings are a “Haggadah Shel Pesach” with the commentary “Aggadas Mordechai” (Amsterdam, 1864), and the Sefer “Derishas Mordechai” on Pirkei Avos (Amsterdam, 1866). Without binding or spine, stains, wear, short tears and light defects around the edges of the leaves, minor worming. Good condition.
