Approbation and blessings of the Rayatz for protection and success! The holy Sefer Noam Elimelech, published by the holy author's grandson, Rabbi Yehoshua Wagshal, at the height of the Holocaust. New York, 1942. Sefer Noam Elimelech, one of the foundational works of Chassidus, by Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk. An edition published at the height of the Second World War. Schlesinger Brothers Press, New York, 1942. [14], 231, [1] pages. Title and printer’s device printed in red ink. Printed in a “splendid format, with clear square type pleasing to the eye.” Includes a facsimile of the title page of the first edition and a partial list of previous editions. The Sefer was published during the dark days of the Second World War, before the turning points of the conflict, when the murderous German army continued conquering country after country across Europe, while persecuting, oppressing, and murdering the Jews of the occupied lands. With a handwritten inscription on the front endpaper by Rabbi Yehoshua Chanoch ben Rabbi Azriel Zelig Kronenberg. The Sefer Noam Elimelech is one of the foundational Sefarim of Chassidic thought. It was authored by Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, one of the foremost disciples of Harav HaKadosh the Maggid of Mezritch and the Rebbe of the leading Admorim of the next generation, including Harav HaKadosh of Apta, Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov, Harav HaKadosh the Chozeh of Lublin, and many others. This edition was published with the approbations from the first edition, together with the approbation of Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam (Krakow, 1896), and the approbations of the Rayatz of Lubavitch, Chief Rabbi of Eretz Yisrael Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Herzog, and the Agudas HaRabbanim of the United States and Canada, dated 1941. On the title page, it is stated that the merit of the author will stand by all purchasers and supporters of the publication for salvation, protection, and blessing in spiritual and material matters, and “to hasten our redemption and the deliverance of our souls.” Reflection of the terrible era in which the Sefer was published, and of the hope that the author's merit would stand by Klal Yisrael in its hour of distress, also appears in the approbations. In his rare and distinctive approbation, The  Rayatz of Lubavitch blesses all purchasers of this holy Sefer in this edition that it should serve “as a safeguard for success.” Rabbi Herzog writes that “the merit of the holy Gaon, the author z”l, shall stand by us and by all the House of Israel on this day of distress, rebuke, and blasphemy, and may we soon merit the salvation of Hashem from Zion and in Zion.” Likewise, the secretary of the Agudas HaRabbanim of the United States and Canada wrote: “May the merit of the holy Gaon stand by us in these days of distress, darkness, and gloom, and by all those who support and assist the aforementioned Rav... and may we merit salvation and a speedy redemption, speedily in our days.” Front cover largely detached.
