From the library of HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Michel Kitze, beloved friend of the Chasam Sofer Responsa Tzemach Tzedek (the earlier), by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Krochmal, Av Beis Din of Nikolsburg – Amsterdam, 1675 – First Edition – Pedigreed Copy With the signature of HaGaon Rabbi Pinchas Chaim Klein, Av Beis Din of Selesh (son of Rabbi Shmuel Shmelke, author of Tzror HaChaim) Ownership inscriptions on leaves 2 and 40 of HaGaon Rabbi Michel Kitze. Signature on the front flyleaf: ”פנחס חיים הק' קליין” Additional signature on leaf 1: ” [?] פנחס חיים הק' בלאאמ”ו מוהרש”ש הגדול” His stamp appears on leaf 2. HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Yechiel Michel Kitze [Pinder] (passed away 1845) — disciple of HaGaon Rabbi Mordechai Bennet, Av Beis Din of Nikolsburg. After his marriage, he settled in Pressburg, where Torah and prominence were united at his table, and he became one of the leaders of the community. He was among the first signatories of the document appointing the Chasam Sofer as Rav of Pressburg. Author of the two-volume work Shalmei Nedavah, containing novellae on several tractates. At the beginning of the first volume appears an enthusiastic approbation by the Chasam Sofer, in which he praises the author: “To him whose entire desire is for Torah and testimony, joined with fear of Hashem... my friend dear as my own soul and greatly beloved, the diligent and distinguished Rav, the renowned leader, lover of righteousness, the honorable Rabbi Michel Kitze, among the foremost dignitaries of our community... throughout his life Torah was his primary occupation and worldly affairs secondary... we shared many delightful conversations and walks together, and most of his words are sweet, altogether lovely...” 11; 5–195 leaves. Lacking the title page and the final leaf. Most leaves in good condition. Several leaves with paper repairs in the margins, water stains, and wear. Contemporary leather binding.
