Rabbi Akiva Eiger and his brother, Rabbi Bunam, were natives of Eisenstadt. Rabbi Bunam was eight years younger than his elder brother. Between 1781 and 1790, Rabbi Akiva Eiger resided in Lissa near his father-in-law, Reb Itzik Margolies. This Sefer was given as a gift by Rabbi Bunam in his youth, in 1787, while he was residing in Lissa in the shadow of his illustrious brother Rabbi Akiva Eiger and receiving Torah from him. HaGaon Rabbi Bunam Ginz-Eiger (1770–1829) was the brother and foremost disciple of his elder brother, Rabbi Akiva Eiger. He served as Rav in Rogasen in the Poznań district and in Mattersdorf (from 1810, where he succeeded the Chasam Sofer in the rabbinate). Great love and esteem existed between the two brothers, and their correspondence is filled with expressions of affection and admiration. At the conclusion of one of Rabbi Akiva Eiger's letters, he writes to his brother: “Your friend, your brother, bound to you in love with heart and soul, Akiva.” His Chiddushim were published in the volume Chiddushei Rabbi Bunam Eiger zt”l (Machon Yerushalayim, 2010).
