ITALIAN NEO-CLASSICAL MICROMOSAIC MARBLE PLAQUE - Circa 1820–1880, Rome. A fine Grand Tour souvenir, inlaid with a hand-crafted micromosaic depicting the Capitoline Doves (also known as Doves of Pliny) surrounded by Roman monuments. The work features classical motifs inspired by the ROMAN EMPIRE. Set in a cartouche-shaped BLACK BELGIAN MARBLE plaque of the Concave Rounded type, with a felt backing. Width: 18 cm; Thickness: 2 cm. Minor repair to corner.
