Le Grand Ignorant, 1965, Mixed media paravent, (oil, wood, collage, offset lithograph) on panels, 187x165 cm (3 panels: 187x51 cm + 187x63 cm + 187x51 cm with hinges), Signed with initals 'ME' (on the centre panel) Provenance: Rubin and Faigie Zimmerman collection. In 1974, Modarco S.A.in Geneva commissioned Max Ernst to execute ninety-nine screens and forty-nine beds entitled Lit-Cage et son Paravent. Although all the screens were produced only fifteen beds were executed before the artist's death in 1976.
