He was known for his extremely powerful punches, and was one of the first boxers to adopt the physical ”bull” style of boxing, in which he always remained physically close to his opponent, moving around the ring with him, risking getting punched so he could land his powerful punches. Due to his aggressive and uncompromising style, fans and journalists nicknamed him ”The Raging Bull”. Hollywood executives suggested that LaMotta produce a film about his life, based on his 1970 autobiographical book, Raging Bull: My Story. Raging Bull was a box office success, with critics calling it a masterpiece, both for its direction by Martin Scorsese and for Robert De Niro's performance as LaMotta. De Niro gained 27 kilograms (60 lb) during filming to play the aging LaMotta in scenes from the later stages of his life. Sources: Wikipedia.
