The ”Six Million Menorah” (also known as the Yad Vashem Menorah) is a six-branched memorial menorah, which is the official symbol of ”Yad Vashem”. Made of bronze (including the base). Height: 22 cm, diameter (base): 5 cm. - Symbolism : The six branches of the menorah symbolize the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust. Design : The menorah was designed in 1960 by artist Zahara Schatz. It is made mostly of brass and is placed on a wooden base engraved with the verse: ”And I will give them in my house and within my walls Yad Vashem... which shall not be cut down” (Isaiah 56:5). Location and Use : The original sculpture of the menorah is located in the heart of the Yad Vashem campus in Jerusalem. Every year, during the main ceremony of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Holocaust survivors and their families light six candles in the ”Menorah of Six” in memory of the victims.
