Rabbi Kalman (Klonimus) Shem-Tov Gefen (1856-1927) was a neo-Kantian philosopher, theorist, mathematician, Kabbalist and Jewish renaissance man, born in Ukraine. Geffen immigrated to Jaffa in 1906 and there he was one of the visitors to Rabbi Kook's house. Hugo Bergman wrote about this essay: "This collection is a bold building of a comprehensive philosophical method that will explain at once and from one fundamental thought the world and man and the visions of nature, the inanimate and the living."
