”Ha-Shachar” - Monthly of the Haskalah Edited by Peretz Smolenskin - Ten Volumes 1871-1884 - Vienna: Printed by Spitzer. A monthly published by Peretz Smolenskinen between 1868-1884 in Vienna, to spread the ideas of the Haskalah (Enlightenment) among the Jews of Eastern Europe. It printed articles calling for the spread of Hebrew, the return to Zion, and even radical and social ideas. Poems, stories, travels, commentaries on the Holy Scriptures, and literary criticism were also published. This lot includes ten annual volumes: Second Year, Fourth Year, Fifth Year, Sixth Year, Seventh Year, Eighth Year, Tenth Year, Year 11 (two volumes) and Year 12 (which was the last). Hebrew, 22X15. cm Good overall condition, slight wear, defects in some of the covers' spines (one spine is missing).
