London: Constable and Company, 1912. Theodore M. Davis (1838-1915) was an American businessman and lawyer known for his excavations in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. The discovery of the tomb of Harmhabi on February 22, 1908, was his last major discovery, and he believed that this discovery also included the tomb of Tutankhamun. When he published the book, Davis announced that the excavations in the Valley of the Kings were exhausted, and that there was nothing more to be found there. A few years after his death, archaeologists discovered the real tomb of Tutankhamun. The book includes 92 plates, a few of them in color. Green cloth binding with gilt lettering. English, 135 pp. + plates, 36X26 cm. Fair condition: wear to the cover, many rust spots throughout the book.
