Numerous inscriptions, mostly in Aramaic, found at historical and archaeological sites in Syria and the southeastern Middle East, in places such as Palmyra and the Hauran region in Syria and in the historical Nabataean kingdom, which stretched from Damascus to the Red Sea, with Petra as its capital. Count Melchior de Vogue collected, translated and analyzed these inscriptions during his travels in 1861-1862 through Syria and Palestine. The book includes 38 plates with inscriptions. A very rare item, sold worldwide for thousands of dollars. Bound in three-quarter leather. French, 164 pp. + plates, 36X27 cm. Good overall condition, light wear.
