Natural History of Mount St. Peters near Maastricht - Two Illustrated Volumes - Amsterdam 1802 - Natuurlijke historie van den St. Pieters berg bij Maastricht. Amsterdam: Johannes Allart, 1802. First edition of the Dutch translation. By Barthélemy Faujas de Saint-Fond (1741-1819), a French geologist and Buffon's assistant at the Museum of Natural History in Paris. The research was conducted by Saint-Fond when the Netherlands became part of France during the French Revolution. The volumes include dozens of folding engraved plates showing illustrations of caves, animals, fossils and minerals. A beautiful, rare and valuable item. Half leather covers with gilt lettering on the spine. Dutch, 340 pp., 22X13 cm. Fair condition: wear to the covers; some pages with creases, small tears and rust spots. Most of the plates are in overall good-fair condition.
