The paintings were done with ink and color in the 19th century on paper. Many of the illustrations feature gold and silver highlights. The album included depictions of Daoist deities including the Empress of Heaven (Tianhou), Chinese mythological figures such as the Dragon King of the East Sea (Donghai Longwang), and Buddhiste deities such as Big-bellied Buddha (Dadufo).
