It is from Nicolao Johannis Visscher and published in Amsterdam c1656. It is entitled Novi Belgii Novaeque Angliae nec non Partis Virginiae Tabula multis in locis emendata... This is Visscher's landmark map of the American northeast in the second state published circa 1656 (pre-dating the appearance of Philadelphia on the map). This is the earliest obtainable state of the map, with the first state only published in a handful of his atlases.. It features regional fauna, indigenous villages, and an inset of an early view of Manhattan / New York City, then claimed by the Dutch. The view of New York was the third known engraved view of the area. Nicolaes (Nicholas) Johannis (Jansz) Visscher (1618-1709) was a Dutch engraver, cartographer, and publisher. He came from a prominent family of cartographers including his father, Claes Janszoon Visscher, and son, Nicholas II. Visscher maps are known for their exceptional engraving.
