Sitwell & Madol's Album de Redoute - Volume with 25 Botanical Plates - This lovely book with 25 facsimile color plates is Sir Sacheverell Sitwell & Roger Madol's Album de Redoute . The work was published in London by Collins in 1954. The edition was limited to 200 copies. The book is bound in hard back publisher's binding, original quarter black cloth, printed Chartreuse green covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back, black speckled designed end sheets. It includes a biography on Redoute by Madol. The 25 facsimile plates are after Pierre-Joseph Redoute's work Album de Redoute first published in 1824. The plates were printed in color photo-litho offset and collotype monochrome by Van Leer of Amsterdam. Pierre-Joseph Redoute was renowned for his artistic ability and tutored such people as Queen Marie-Antoinette, Empress Josephine, Marie-Louise, and Queen Marie-Amelie. Redoute influenced a breadth of artists that followed him including Turpin, Poiteau, Bessa, and Prevost. Redoute is widely considered the finest botanical illustrator of the early 19th century, if not throughout history.
