This is the first edition of the work and was published in Paris between 1833 and 1839. The work is bound in three-quarter black calf, gold gilt lettering, four raised bands, marbled boards. The first nine volumes are the written text, the last three contain the 719 (of 720) hand-colored engravings. The missing plate is number 347. The plates depict numerous natural history subjects and were done by A Carie Baron, Pedretti, du Casse, Adolphe Fries, de Sainson, and Varin. Felix-Edouard Guerin-Meneville (1799-1874) was a French entomologist. He published natural history works and had several beetles named after him.
