Reverend Jebidiah Morse (1761-1826) was born to the Connecticut colony and published numerous maps. He was a geographer and produced numerous textbooks used for students in the newly established United States of America. These textbooks earned him the epithet, ”Father of American geography.” He was also the father of Samuel Morse, the telegraphy inventor and portrait painter.
