Jardine & Selby's Parrots - Volume with 30 Originally Hand-colored Engravings - This book is a John Prideaux Selby’s German translation of William Jardine’s The Naturalist’s Library . The work is entitled Naturgeschitchte der Papageien or Natural History of Parrots . It was published in Pest (modern Budapest) in 1842 by a Mr. Hartleben and translated into German by Friedrich Treischke. The volume is bound in contemporary green cloth with gold gilt lettering and details to spine. The book includes a portrait of Le Valliant in the front as well as a short biography. The subject matter includes parrots from various parts of the world in 30 originally hand-colored engravings.. Sir William Jardine (1800-1874) was a talented Scottish naturalist. Some of his original work is in the London Natural History Museum and the Royal Scottish Museum. Jardine contributed most of the text for his works.
