Children's Natural History Scrap Album - Volume with 90 Chromolithographed Leaves - This scarce volume with 90 color chromolithographs is The Children's Natural History Scrap Album . The work was published in London by O. Newmann and Co. in 1887. The volume is in publisher's binding which is representative of the Victorian style in decorated brown cloth, gilt lettering, and illustrated wildlife of lions, tigers, elephants, and giraffes. It features 90 chromolithographed leaves (uncollated, but believed complete) on mammals, birds, and other species. A front page pencilled notation on the inclusion of 231 mammals, 285 birds, 93 reptiles & amhibians, 117 fish, 240 insects or beetles , 48 mollusca, and 72 sea life (coral, etc). The album served as a late-Victorian interactive educational work designed for hands-on learning. The children would stamp illustrations of animals to match their English and Latin names.
