Fenton Iridescent Amethyst Carnival Glass Commemorative Plates - This lot consists of two iridized glass commemorative plates manufactured by the Fenton Art Glass Company. Both pieces are crafted from deep amethyst-toned glass featuring a vibrant iridescent carnival finish that displays a spectrum of blue, green, gold, and magenta tones. Each plate is designed with a scalloped edge and an embossed floral-patterned rim. The first plate, dated 1970, features a central bas-relief scene depicting a 17th-century glass craftsman at a workbench, commemorating the glassmaking industry at Jamestown in 1608. The reverse is embossed with a script Fenton logo in an oval and text that reads: THE FENTON ART GLASS COMPANY COMMEMORATES WITH THIS HANDMADE PLATE THE EARLIEST GLASS CRAFTSMAN OF NEW AMERICA JAMESTOWN - 1608 NO. 1 IN THE ANNUAL SERIES OF COLLECTOR'S PLATES BY FENTON 1970. The second plate is the 1975 Mother's Day edition featuring a bas-relief interpretation of Michelangelo's Madonna and Child. The lower edge of the central scene is inscribed Mother's Day 1975. The reverse bears the script Fenton logo and retains a gold foil sticker reading Fenton AUTHENTIC HANDMADE. Embossed text on the glass reverse reads: Fenton commemorates Mother's Day with a bas-relief in glass of Michelangelo's 'Madonna'. Offered in recognition of the 500th Anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo Buonarroti. March 6, 1475. No. 5 in the annual series of Mother's Day Plates by Fenton. 1975.
