Bidspirit auction | Mechanical Elephant with Howdah Pull

Mechanical Elephant with Howdah Pull Tail Bank - This item is a mechanical bank in the style of late 19th and early 20th-century designs by American manufacturers such as Hubley or J. & E. Stevens, likely a later 20th-century reproduction. It is cast in the form of a standing elephant carrying a saddle howdah. The bank utilizes a pull-tail mechanism where actuating the tail causes the trunk to pivot. A coin slot is positioned on the rear of the animal's back. The bank is finished in polychrome paint featuring a blue body, gold-accented howdah, and white tusks. The two halves of the body are held together by a single side-mounted screw.
