Mid-20th Century Hand-Painted Hillbilly Souvenir Stoneware Jug Signed Carol - This is a hand-painted two-tone stoneware jug, characteristic of mid-20th-century souvenir pottery from regions such as the Ozarks or the Great Smoky Mountains. The jug features a traditional utilitarian form with a rounded shoulder, a short neck, and a single strap handle. The upper portion is finished in a dark brown glaze, while the cylindrical body is finished in a cream-colored slip. The front is decorated with a hand-painted folk art scene of a barefoot man with a long beard, wearing a tattered red shirt, blue trousers, and a tall black hat. He is shown holding a small jug marked XXX. The background landscape includes a red cabin, a secondary red building, and stylized blue mountains. The painting is signed Carol in script at the lower right corner of the scene. No manufacturer stamps or impressed marks are visible on the base or shoulder.
