Tehillim with forged ”Peirush HaRashbam.” Berlin [1794] Sefer Tehillim with peirush from the Rashbam, grandson of the Rashi. The ”Peirush” was supposedly printed from a manuscript in ”the king's library, ” along with comments by the publisher Itzik Stanov, who was infamous for his forgeries. In actuality, the entire commentary was written by the publisher and all references to the Rashbam were fabricated by him. The work was printed over three years, during which the author received many complaints about his forgery. At the end of the work he printed a curt, semi-apology: ”Readers should know that most of the peirush is mine.” Pedigreed copy.
