Postcard, Handwritten and Signed by the Admor, Rabbi Yosef Wertheim – 7th of Iyar, 1936 The Admor, Rabbi Yosef Wertheim of Bende r, was a descendant of the Bender Chassidic dynasty and, on his mother’s side, a descendant of the Chernobyl dynasty. He was the son of the Admor, Rabbi Shimon Shlomo Wertheim of Bender. He served as a rabbi in Austria, Hrubieszów, and later succeeded his father as Rabbi and Rebbe of Bender. He worked tirelessly to aid the Jews of Bessarabia, even risking his own life for their welfare. In 1940, he made aliyah to Eretz Yisrael, where he established a Beit Midrash, which eventually became a thriving center of Torah and Chassidut. He passed away on the 23rd of Adar, 1947.
