Keter Torah V'Keter Malchut – Magnificent Illustrated Letter with a picture of Mearat HaMachpelah by Rabbi Shneur Zalman Mendlowitz – Hebron, Prior to 1855 A beautifully decorated letter with colorful illustrations, written by Rabbi Shneur Zalman Mendlowitz, shadar of Hebron, addressed to the noted philanthropist, Rabbi Akiva Lehren. Illustrated, decorative border, in gold and multi-colors, with a nice illustration of Mearat HaMachpelah in Hebron at its base. In the margins, Rabbi Shneur Zalman offers Rabbi Akiva Lehren: ”If his honor so desires, I will send him a large menorah (Mizrach) for his Beit Midrash, illustrated in gold with various intricate designs.” The letter itself mentions a donation from Carl Von Rothschild - Mayer Carl Rothschild who is mentioned here with the note הי”ו. He died in 1855, indicating that this letter was written prior to this date. Rabbi Shneur Zalman Mendlowitz, author of Zichron Yerushalayim and Avodat Hashem was a prominent member of the Chabad community in Hebron and its famed shadar. He traveled to India, where he was honorably received by the Sassoon family and put forth much effort to support the Jewish community in Hebron ( Encyclopedia L’Chassidut p. 895). Thin paper.
