Letter from Rabbi Isaac Mishal, Av Beit Din of Kanizsa – 1834 Rabbi Isaac Mishal, son of Rabbi Gedaliah , Av Beit Din of Pastokha (referenced in Shu”t Chatam Sofer, Orach Chaim, Siman 64 in a responsum addressed to him), served as the rabbi of Kanizsa from 1833 following the passing of Rabbi Meir Santa in 1832. In Kanizsa, he faced opposition from certain townspeople who had initially opposed his appointment. After several years of ongoing conflict, he eventually resigned from the rabbinate. In this letter, among other matters, he writes to Rabbi Shlomo Rosenthal, describing the persecution he endured from his adversaries and requesting that he intervene and plead with them to stop.
