Chassidus. Protective Segulah – Darchei Ha’Emunah. Jassy, 1857. Copy of Rabbi Baruch Dovid Kahanah of וישניצא and his family. Darchei HaEmunah – Amazing ways and fortifying emunah to excite hearts and to open blind eyes, by Rabbi Yosef Dovid HaKohen of זוואלוב, av”d Jassy, talmid of Rabbi Yonatan Eibschutz, who spent time in the court of Rabbi Meshulem Feivish of Zbarazh and Rabbi Moshe Leib of Sassov. He took over the Ohev Yisroel of Apt’s position in Jassy, and served there until his death in 1828. The book opens with the approbation of the sons of Rabbi Yisroel of Ruzhin: Rabbi Dov Ber of Leova and Rabbi Menachem Nachum of Shtefenesht. Rabbi Yeshaya Schorr, av”d Jassy, writes in his introduction: Keeping this work in one’s home is a “protection for the home.” *********************** The title page and additional leaves bear the stamps of the Kahana family of Safed, led by Rabbi Baruch Dovid Hakohen-Kahana: * Rabbi Baruch Dovid Kahana (d. 1921) was a beloved talmid of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz and his son the Admor of Shinova. He moved to Eretz Israel per the instructions of his Rebbe and settled in Safed, where he founded the Sanzer Kloiz. He was in charge of  Kollel Galicia in Eretz Israel. His works include: Chibas Ha’aretz and Birkas Ha’aretz and he also published the Binat Moshe (Kosnitz). * Rabbi Nachman Kahana (1869-1937) son of Rabbi Baruch Dovid, prominent Safed personality. Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld stayed  at his home when he visited the city. He was a friend of the Rebbe of Shinova and his son, the Rebbe from ציעשינוב. He learned Kabbalah together with Rabbi Yehoshua Palagi. *  R’ Zindel Kahana ben Rabbi Nachaman ben Rabbi Baruch Dovid (d. 1960) was a teacher in Yeshivas Chatam Sofer and a Safed communal activist. * Additional stamp: Eliezer Auerbach of Safed. *********************** Jassy [1857], only edition.
