Stefansky Chassidut #476 ___________ About the Author: The holy Rabbi Yisrael Nachman of Drohobych, born in Stanislawów (Galicia), was named after the Baal Shem Tov, as he himself writes in his sefer Pekudat HaMelech (leaf 19b in the second pagination): ”The words of the renowned holy Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov of Mezhbizh, whose name is within mine.” His father was one of the disciples of the Baal Shem Tov. On his way to Eretz Yisrael, he met the Chida in Italy, who deeply admired him and learned much from him about the Baal Shem Tov and the Chassidic movement. The Chida mentions him in his commentary Chomat Anach on Shir HaShirim: ”And I heard from the great luminary, Rabbi Yisrael Nachman, may his light shine, in the name of his righteous father, Rabbi Yosef, a disciple of the pious and holy Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov, of blessed memory.”
