Chabad. Manuscript ”Bichel, ” Maamarim of the early Chabad Rebbes - early copy Collection of pamphlets, with dozens of chassidic maamarim, from the Alter Rebbe; his son, the Mitteler Rebbe; and grandson, the Tzemach Tzedek. Many pamphlets bound together, like all ”bichelich, ” written a number of copiers. It seems that most of the maamarim are from the Mitteler Rebbe. Written in the early 1840s. In the margins of many maamarim, מוגה or מוגה היטב. About 450 pages, measuring 10x16 cm. Poor, very blemished condition, with a lot of worming damage and holes . All the holes have been filled with Japanese tissue paper. New binding. The content of the maamarim has not been thoroughly studied. The Chabad ”Bichel” In the past, Chabad did not often print seforim. Instead of printing their works, they created a system of copiers or writers (known as ”Schreibers”), first in Liozna, the cradle of Chabad chassidus, then in Liadi and later in Lubavitch, where the Mitteler Rebbe settled…The copiers copied the Torah that the Rebbe said.. The system worked as follows: The Rebbe said Torah to the chassidim. After Shabbos or Yom Tov, the Rebbe would give this same Torah, handwritten, to his head copier. This copier would copy it over, return the manuscript to the Rebbe, and use his copy to made many other copies. Every chassid who returned home with new Torah, would allow chassidim in his own city to copy the Torah again…Once a chassid collected a number of such pamphlets, he would have them bound together, into a ”bichel.” (Reb Chaim Lieberman, Ohel Rochel, section three p. 20-26).
