A Provincial Oak Ladder-Back Side Chair with Rush Seat - A single provincial English oak side chair in the North Country vernacular style. The high back features five graduated wavy horizontal slats set between square-section uprights. The seat is of envelope-woven rush construction. The underframe comprises turned front legs and straight rear legs, all connected by plain-turned stretchers. The chair is constructed using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The oak frame has a dark-stained finish. Two modern adhesive inventory labels are present on the back left upright, one orange label numbered 258 and one white label numbered 9 and 6. No maker's marks or stamps are visible.
