Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Clear Pressed Glass Plate, 1897 - A late-Victorian clear pressed glass commemorative plate produced to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. The central well features a relief profile portrait of the Queen in her widow's weeds and crown, set within a double border of embossed circular beads. The wide, matted border is decorated in relief with the floral emblems of the United Kingdom, including roses, thistles, and shamrocks. Embossed lettering on the rim reads 1897 DIAMOND with the word JUBILEE likely continuing under the adhesive labels. The plate is finished with a scalloped pie crust rim. This type of commemorative glassware was produced by several major British glassworks, such as Greener and Co. or Sowerby of Gateshead.
