Bidspirit auction | A Large Ceramic Dairy Bowl

A Large Ceramic Dairy Bowl or Pancheon with Cream Glaze Interior - This large ceramic vessel is a traditional dairy bowl, commonly referred to as a pancheon. The form is characterised by deep, circular tapering sides and a wide, flat-topped rim. Historically, such bowls were essential utilitarian items in farmhouse kitchens, used for tasks such as bread-proving or allowing cream to rise. The interior is finished with a smooth, pale cream-coloured glaze. The exterior features a contrasting dark manganese-brown slip finish with a matte texture. There are no discernible maker's marks, capacity stamps, or incised signatures present on the vessel. A small white adhesive lot sticker is attached to the upper rim.
