Bidspirit auction | Late 19th Century Brass Chestnut

Late 19th Century Brass Chestnut Roaster with Cast Grotesque Mask - A brass chestnut roaster of circular form, typical of late Victorian or Edwardian fireside implements. The object features a pressed brass pan with a central cast brass medallion depicting a bearded grotesque or Green Man style mask. The surface of the pan is pierced with a concentric pattern of small circular holes designed to allow steam to escape during use. It is fitted with a wrought flat brass handle, which is attached to the body with rivets and decorated with two scroll accents at the shoulder. The handle terminates in a pierced trefoil-shaped finial intended for hanging. No maker marks are visible on the piece. Two modern adhesive stickers are present on the handle: a white rectangular sticker marked with the digit 2 and an orange rectangular sticker marked with the digits 18.
