Two 19th-century Staffordshire style ceramic spill holders - This lot comprises two 19th-century Staffordshire style ceramic spill holders. The first item is a castle or gatehouse form, which functions as both a spill holder and a watch stand. It features twin towers with open apertures and a centrally positioned arched section containing a moulded clock face. The piece is finished in a peach-coloured glaze and is embellished with multi-coloured applied shredded clay, commonly known as cole slaw decoration, representing moss and foliage. The second item is a figural spill holder depicting a group of figures gathered around a central tree trunk or vase. It is rendered in a white glaze with hand-painted details and features clusters of blue shredded clay decoration. Both items are constructed from moulded earthenware typical of Victorian chimney ornaments.
