Large 19th Century Staffordshire Pottery Flat-Back Figurine of a Seated Pastoral Couple within a Grapevine Arbour - A large Victorian-period Staffordshire pottery flat-back figurine depicting a romanticised pastoral couple seated within an ornate, moulded arbour or bower. The figures are dressed in eighteenth-century style costumes; the male figure is rendered in a white tunic with pink breeches and blue stockings, while the female figure wears a white gown accented with hand-painted floral sprigs. The surrounding arbour is decorated with relief-moulded clusters of purple grapes and green vine leaves. Such pieces are frequently associated with depictions of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in various pastoral settings. The piece is constructed from glazed earthenware with hand-painted polychrome decoration in shades of green, purple, pink, and orange. As a flat-back figurine, the reverse is unmodelled and white-glazed, designed for display against a wall on a chimney mantel. No factory marks or decorator initials are visible on the front or the seen portions of the base. A small white circular inventory sticker with the number 2 is present on the right-hand side.
