The top is ornamented with a central five-pointed star in a light-coloured wood, likely fruitwood or boxwood, set within a geometric interlaced border of fine stringing. The piece exhibits an aged patina throughout. The lid currently bears an orange adhesive sticker with the handwritten digits 789 and a small white label printed with the number 11.
