Late 19th or Early 20th Century Painted Pine Blanket Chest - A provincial storage or blanket chest dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The chest is constructed from pine or a similar soft wood and consists of a rectangular box with a hinged top lid. It is raised on four short cabriole-style legs with pad feet, reflecting a simplified Queen Anne influence. A single keyhole is located on the front face, although the original escutcheon is missing. The chest features a heavily distressed multi-layered painted finish, with a cream or buff upper layer flaking away to reveal historical layers of pale green and dark underpaint.
