A late Victorian copper and brass helmet-shaped coal scuttle - A traditional coal scuttle of helmet form dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The body is constructed from sheet copper with a rolled rim and hand-assembled riveted construction. It is fitted with a substantial brass swing handle and a smaller fixed brass handle at the rear for pouring. No maker's marks, hallmarks, or labels are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces. The interior is blackened from use and currently contains a quantity of coal and dried organic debris.
