A George III Mahogany Eight-Day Longcase Clock by John Wickes of Ormskirk - A George III mahogany longcase clock, the dial signed for the maker John Wickes of Ormskirk. The case is constructed from mahogany with flame mahogany veneers to the trunk door and base section. The hood features a swan-neck pediment decorated with ebonized and gilt-painted scrolling foliate patterns, supported by fluted pilasters. The trunk door is designed with a shaped top and boxwood stringing. The square painted dial has a cream-coloured ground, featuring an outer track with Arabic numerals for minutes and an inner ring with Roman numerals for hours. Hand-painted floral motifs decorate the dial centre and spandrels. The clock is fitted with a mechanical weight-driven striking movement, indicated by two winding holes to the dial face.
