George II Oak Eight Day Longcase Clock by Jonas Barber of Winster - An eighteenth-century oak longcase clock by Jonas Barber of Winster. The case is constructed from oak with a square hood featuring turned columns and brass capitals. The hood has a flat, truncated top. The trunk contains a full-length door with a moulded edge and a brass escutcheon, sitting upon a plain rectangular plinth base. The eleven-inch square brass dial features a silvered chapter ring signed Jonas Barber Winster. The chapter ring is engraved with Roman hour numerals, Arabic minute numerals at five-minute intervals, and fleur-de-lis half-hour markers. The matted brass centre includes two winding holes, engraved scrollwork decoration, and a square aperture for the date wheel. The corners are decorated with ornate cast brass spandrels depicting cherub heads and scrollwork. The movement is an eight-day mechanical, weight-driven type designed to strike the hours on a bell.
