Bidspirit auction | A 19th Century Brass Preserving
A 19th Century Brass Preserving Pan with Wrought Iron Swing Handle - A large, deep utilitarian vessel crafted from heavy-gauge brass, typically used as a preserving or jam pan. The body is constructed with a reinforced, rolled rim and demonstrates evidence of traditional manufacturing, appearing to be spun or hammered. It is fitted with a hand-forged wrought iron swing handle, which is secured to the brass body by two rivets on either side. No maker marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on any part of the object. The exterior surface is finished with a thick, matte black patination or soot layer, characteristic of prolonged historical use over an open hearth. The interior retains a tarnished brass surface with scattered natural oxidation.
