German Mining Commemorative Plaque – St. Barbara, Bohlen 1935 - Cast metal commemorative plaque depicting St. Barbara (St. Barbará), the traditional patron saint of miners, artillerymen, and those who work with explosives. She is shown standing on clouds with outstretched hands and a radiant halo, rendered in a restrained Art-Deco–influenced style typical of the mid-1930s.The inscription at the top reads “ST. BARBARA.” At the bottom appears the traditional miners’ greeting “GLÜCK AUF!” (“Good luck / Safe return”), above crossed mining tools and a miner’s lamp. Below this is the place and date “BÖHLEN 1935.” The presence of small political symbols reflects the period in which the plaque was produced and does not change its primary function as a mining and devotional commemorative object.
