Adolf Hitler Signed Photograph with Hoffmann Studio Backstamp - A sepia-toned bust portrait photograph of Adolf Hitler in a dark suit and tie, bearing his ink signature and the date 20 May 1924 - a period during which he was confined to Landsberg Prison following his conviction for the November 1923 Beer Hall Putsch. The lower left of the image carries the inscription ”Adolf Hitler” alongside additional handwritten text. The reverse is stamped in purple ink ”Aufnahme: Photo-Bericht Hoffmann, Schellingstr. 50,” tying the photograph to Heinrich Hoffmann's Munich studio, which would go on to become the primary official source of Hitler photographic imagery throughout the Nazi era. Photographs signed during this early Landsberg period predate Hoffmann's later role as chief NSDAP photographer. The Beer Hall Putsch of November 1923 was Hitler's failed attempt, alongside Erich Ludendorff and other nationalist figures, to seize power in Munich, resulting in his trial for treason and a five-year sentence at Landsberg Prison, of which he served roughly nine months. During this period he wrote Mein Kampf and continued to cultivate a public profile through correspondence and photographs distributed to supporters. Heinrich Hoffmann, a Munich photographer and early NSDAP member, had already begun photographing Hitler before this period and subsequently became the party's official photographer, producing and controlling the vast majority of Hitler's public image through the Third Reich.
