Alpine Landscape Watercolor Painting by Julius Streicher - This alpine landscape watercolor, depicting a green meadow, tree line, and layered blue-grey peaks, was painted by Julius Streicher in 1937, as indicated by the monogram reading approximately ”Str” and the date ”37” in the lower right corner. The piece is part of a small group of watercolors by Streicher that were purchased from his son, Lothar Streicher, some years back, offering a rare glimpse into the personal artistic pursuits of a major Third Reich figure outside his public role. The group was later acquired by a lifelong resident of Berchtesgaden, a historian well known in the region for his work on local and wartime history. Shown in the listing is a copy of a photograph showing Streicher seated outdoors on a folding stool with a sketchbook on his knee, actively engaged in painting or drawing a landscape en plein air, dressed in a light shirt, suspender-braces, and knee socks.Julius Streicher (1885–1946) was the founder and publisher of the antisemitic propaganda newspaper Der Stürmer and Gauleiter of Franconia within the Nazi Party, a role in which he became one of the regime's most virulent public agitators. He was tried at Nuremberg for crimes against humanity for his role in inciting persecution of Jews and was executed in 1946. Outside his political activities, Streicher pursued painting as a private hobby, and surviving works of this kind offer a rare view of such figures away from their public and criminal roles.
