Adolf Hitler Haus Wachenfeld Berghof 'Gruss aus Obersalzberg' Souvenir Cloth Runner - A cotton/linen souvenir runner or table cloth printed with an alpine scene depicting 'Adolf Hitler Heim' at Obersalzberg, flanked by hand-painted floral bouquets in folk-art style. Text reads 'Gruss aus Obersalzberg' (Greetings from Obersalzberg) beneath a small swastika motif. The piece has a blue-and-white checked woven trim border.Haus Wachenfeld was the villa on the Obersalzberg above Berchtesgaden that Hitler leased from the mid-1920s and purchased in 1933, subsequently rebuilding and expanding it into the Berghof, his principal Alpine residence and a de facto seat of government where he received foreign dignitaries and held key conferences during the 1930s and early 1940s. Following his rise to power the surrounding area became a major Nazi Party showcase and tourist attraction, drawing crowds of visitors and prompting a substantial trade in souvenirs, postcards, and decorative items bearing views of the residence, in keeping with the long-established German 'Gruss aus' souvenir tradition adapted here for propaganda purposes. Such items were produced commercially for sale to tourists and party sympathisers visiting Obersalzberg before the site's destruction by Allied bombing in April 1945.
