NSDAP Early Slogan Badge Nun Erst Recht - A round pin-back badge with red enamel border reading 'DEUTSCHLAND ERWACHE' (Germany Awaken), surrounding a central white enameled field with a black swastika. Reverse is marked 'GES. GESCH.' (Gesetzlich Geschützt, i.e., legally protected design). Constructed of a base metal body with enamel fill. This badge type dates from the early period of the Nazi movement's public campaigning during the Weimar Republic, when the phrase ”Deutschland Erwache” (”Germany Awaken”) served as one of the NSDAP's principal rallying slogans, appearing on party banners, the Sturmfahne, and various propaganda items from the early-to-mid 1920s onward. ”Nun erst recht” (”Now more than ever”) was a defiant slogan used by the party following setbacks, notably after the failed Munich Putsch of November 1923 and the subsequent temporary ban on the party, signalling continued commitment to the movement's aims. Such badges were worn by early party members and sympathisers to publicly declare political allegiance during a period when the NSDAP was still a fringe movement competing for attention among numerous nationalist and völkisch groups in Germany. The ”Ges. Gesch.” marking reflects the contemporary German practice of registering a design's pattern to prevent unauthorised copying, common among manufacturers of political and commercial badges of the era.
