Bidspirit auction | Early NSDAP Metal Swastika License

Early NSDAP Metal Swastika License Plate Topper/Emblem - A cast metal emblem in a triangular openwork frame with a central mobile swastika motif, mounted on two threaded bolt studs for attachment, likely to a vehicle license plate or bracket. The frame is stamped 'DRGM' on both sides, indicating German registered design protection. Surface shows a nickel or chrome-plated finish. One mounting bolt retains a nut. This type of accessory emerged during the early years of the Nazi movement, when party supporters displayed swastika emblems on private vehicles as a visible sign of political allegiance, particularly during the Kampfzeit and the period immediately following the 1933 seizure of power. The DRGM (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster) marking indicates the design was registered for utility patent protection under the Weimar-era commercial system, a common practice for small manufactured novelty and accessory items of the period. Such plates and toppers were produced commercially by aftermarket suppliers rather than issued officially by the party, reflecting the broader popular culture of political symbolism that developed in Germany during the early 1930s.
